The House

The History of the House

The house itself is situated close to Swieradow Zdoj in the district of Dolnoslaski. We are literally on the edge of the Polish National Parks that run all the way across the mountaneous southern edge of Poland. To be precise it is situated in the Sudetan mountains on the foothills of the Karkonosze (or Karkonoski) Park.

The first parts of the house where built in 1780 and consisted of a stable above a living quarters. The house was extended whilst it was part of Germany into a substantial although simply structured Farm house. A seperate barn outbuiding was also added to the property at this time .The house was built in a classic German style of the time with large rooms around a central hallway. To assist in the heating the original stable area with its vaulted ceiling was kept for housing animals.

The renovation work

We have been careful to keep the orginal character in the renovation work which we have carried out.The brief from the very start was to create a warm , farmhouse feel but with modern levels of luxury including full ensuite facilities.Local tradesman were used and wherever possible original features have been kept or replicated. This has resulted in very substantial room sizes with alot of window space creating lovely natural lighting. . The decorating of each room has involved a very personal level of attention creating a different feel to each of them.

Given the size of the house we expect the renovation work to continue for many years to come.We want every room to keep some character and therefore we see it as a gradual process of modernisation.

The Accomodation

The accomodation for guests currently includes four very spacious ensuite rooms. They all have been finished to the highest quality but maintain the original farmhouse feel. The original beams have been exposed to match the wooden floor panelling and windows. The main hallways are all very spacious with a curved stairway up to the upper floor.

There is a spacious kitchen and breakfast room with an original wood burning stove. The main area for relaxation is the original vaulted animal quarters . There has been minimal possible change to this room. With the addition of a log fire comfortable seating and of course a bar this has become the snug area of the house. A room designed for sitting , relaxing and sharing stories around the fire with a few mandatory vodkas.
